The greatest thing about Camp Okefenokee is the lives that are changed every year.

Hello
A Letter From Camp Leadership
Camp Okefenokee began in 1983 through the vision of Pastor Earl Dorminey as a ministry of Ware Baptist Church in Waycross, Georgia. What started with simple facilities, screened buses used as cabins, and a pond with a rope swing has grown into a place that has impacted generations of campers.
Today, Camp Okefenokee continues as a nonprofit ministry of Swamp Road Baptist Church, operating on kingdom principles of faith. While the camp has grown over the years, the purpose remains exactly the same — to create a Christ-centered environment where young people can hear the truth of God’s Word, build lasting friendships, and make life-changing decisions.
Churches, businesses, families, and individuals continue to make camp possible through prayer, volunteer service, donated resources, food, and financial support. Every person who gives plays a role in helping campers experience a week that can impact eternity.
Shaping the future
Mission
Camp Okefenokee exists to provide a Christ-centered camp experience where young people grow in faith, build meaningful friendships, and encounter the life-changing truth of God’s Word.
Through daily preaching, biblical teaching, fellowship, recreation, and intentional community, we seek to create an environment where campers are encouraged spiritually, challenged personally, and equipped to live for Christ.
Our story
From Humble Beginnings to Lasting Impact
Camp Okefenokee has come a long way from its early days. What once included hollowed-out buses used as cabins and a simple pond for swimming has grown into a camp with air-conditioned cabins, a chapel, cafeteria, canteen, and expanded recreation areas.
The former tabernacle now serves as a canteen where campers enjoy snacks and drinks during the week. It remains a reminder of the camp’s humble beginnings and the faithfulness that has sustained this ministry for decades.
Guests and campers enjoy fishing and canoeing on Suwannee Creek along with sports, games, outdoor recreation, and time spent building friendships that often last long after camp ends.
And of course, one thing campers never forget is the food — three Southern-style meals each day served with hospitality and care.
The Heart of Camp
The greatest thing about Camp Okefenokee is not the cabins, activities, or facilities.
It is the spiritual impact.
Campers participate in three services each day where their spirits are fed and the truth of God’s Word is boldly proclaimed. This spiritual emphasis, together with the work of the Holy Spirit, has resulted in salvations, renewed faith, and life-changing decisions for Christ year after year.
Everything we do points back to the mission behind our motto:
Where Lives Are Changed.
